Find Me: Nightbound

Melodic Hard Rock/AOR
5.0/5.0

Once more we return to the powerhouse AOR project Find Me, featuring Swedish musician, songwriter, and producer Daniel Flores (The Murder Of My Sweet, Issa, et al) and singer Robbie Lablanc (Blanc Faces). Nightbound is the duo's latest and fifth studio album for Frontiers Music. The album also features songs written by veteran composer and multi-instrumentalist Jim Peterik (World Stage, Pride Of Lions, et al). Also appearing are guitarist Andi Kravljaca (Hydra, First Signal) and keyboard player Rolf Pilotti, who played on the first two Find Me albums.

LaBlanc comments on the album: "The new Find Me is my favorite to date, I know it seems cliché to say that, but I really believe it! There is a good mix of songwriters on the album, including three songs from Jim Peterik, how lucky am I to sing three of his songs! Danny did an amazing job on the production and arrangements. All of the musicians were amazing as well."

Daniel Flores adds, "It's been a blast to work with these songs and bringing the demos to life so they fit with Robbie's enormous voice and I dare say that this is by far Robbie's best performance to date, that also shines in the music, and the band is in rare form as we inspire each other. This is the most playful and hard rocking album we've made so far ..."

Flores has made an interesting comment. After one spin, my first observation was that Nightbound songs have some punch, definitely swerving to side of classic melodic hard rock (of course, in AOR wrapper). You can hear it in the up beat, bit heavier, rhythm section but also in the riffs and ripping solos. LaBlanc for his part is really belting it out. These things are self-evident within Can't Wait Here Anymore, Never Be Alone, Walk Through Fire, and the fast-paced rocker The Time Has Come. Alternatively, songs such as Distant Lovers and Love Always Finds A Way remind of classic Eighties AOR arena anthems. But for my money the best song on the album is Speechless: good pacing, groove, and melody complimented by terrific lyrics and an amazing chorus. I can't believe this was not released as a single.

All said, with Nightbound, Find Me duo of Daniel Flores and vocalist Robbie LaBlanc deliver another energetic and entertaining album of classic, AOR accessible, melodic hard rock inspired by good songwriting and terrific musicianship. What else would you expect? Easily recommended.
